Fax Credit Dispute Letters
With Proof of Receipt

The FCRA gives bureaus 30 days to investigate from the date they receive your dispute. A timestamped fax receipt proves exactly when that clock started.

From $0.60 with credits · $1.29 pay-as-you-go · No account needed

The 30-day investigation clock starts on receipt. Under 15 U.S.C. § 1681i (FCRA), a credit bureau must complete its reinvestigation within 30 days of receiving your dispute letter. A timestamped fax receipt is the cleanest proof of that date — essential if you need to escalate to the CFPB or pursue an FCRA claim.

Credit bureau fax numbers

Numbers are publicly listed but change periodically — verify on each bureau's dispute page before sending. If a fax fails to deliver, you are not charged.

Consumer Financial Protection Bureau — escalation after bureau inaction

Disputing the same error on all three reports? You'll need to send a separate fax to each bureau — each maintains its own database.

When to fax your credit dispute

Any time a dated delivery receipt strengthens your position

🏠

Mortgage applications

A single erroneous late payment can cost you a loan approval or add tens of thousands in interest. Dispute before closing — fax receipt proves you acted before the lender pulled your score.

🪪

Identity theft recovery

Victims dispute fraudulent accounts across all three bureaus simultaneously. A timestamped receipt per bureau documents when each 30-day investigation window opened.

🚗

Auto & personal loans

Errors on your report inflate your interest rate. Dispute and document the receipt date before your next loan application.

🏢

Rental applications

Landlords run credit checks. An error that kills a rental application can be disputed and resolved if you can show a dispute was pending at the time.

💳

Credit card approvals

Collections, charge-offs, and incorrect balances reduce your score. Faxing gives you dated proof that corrections were requested.

⚖️

Legal & CFPB escalation

If a bureau fails to respond within 30 days or ignores valid disputes, a timestamped receipt is your evidence for a CFPB complaint or FCRA lawsuit.

How it works

1

Write your dispute letter

Describe the error, cite the account, and attach supporting documents (statements, court orders, police reports). One PDF per bureau.

2

Fax to each bureau

Send to Equifax, TransUnion, and Experian separately — each bureau keeps its own records and each needs its own dispute.

3

Get your timestamped receipt

From $0.60 with credits · $1.29 pay-as-you-go. Delivery receipt emailed the moment each fax is confirmed received.

4

Track your 30-day window

Under the FCRA, bureaus must complete their investigation within 30 days of receiving your dispute. Your fax receipt is the official start of that window.

✍️

Sign and fax your dispute letter in one step

Draw your signature, place it on your dispute letter PDF, and fax directly from the same screen. No printing, no scanning, no fax machine. Each fax generates its own timestamped receipt.

Frequently asked questions

Why is a fax receipt better than certified mail for credit disputes?

Both create a delivery record, but fax is faster (minutes vs. days) and the receipt is digital — timestamped, searchable, and immediately available if you need to escalate to the CFPB or file a lawsuit. Certified mail receipts can be lost; your fax receipt is emailed to you the moment delivery is confirmed.

When does the 30-day FCRA investigation window start?

Under 15 U.S.C. § 1681i, a credit bureau must complete its reinvestigation within 30 days of receiving your dispute (extendable to 45 days if you provide additional information). The clock starts on receipt — not the postmark or send date. A timestamped fax receipt documents that moment precisely.

Do I need to fax all three bureaus separately?

Yes. Equifax, TransUnion, and Experian are separate companies with separate databases. An error at one bureau does not automatically get fixed at the others. If the same erroneous account appears on all three reports, you need to dispute it with each bureau individually.

What should my credit dispute letter include?

Your full name, address, date of birth, and last four of your SSN; the name and account number of each disputed item; a clear statement of why the information is wrong; copies of any supporting documentation (not originals). The CFPB provides free dispute letter templates at consumerfinance.gov.

What if a bureau ignores my dispute or misses the 30-day deadline?

File a complaint with the CFPB at consumerfinance.gov — attach your timestamped fax receipt as evidence of when the bureau received your dispute. You may also have grounds for an FCRA lawsuit; consult a consumer protection attorney. The CFPB can also be faxed directly for escalation.

Can I sign and fax my dispute letter in one step?

Yes. Use the Sign & Fax tool — draw your signature, place it on your dispute letter PDF, and fax directly from the same screen. No printing, no scanning.
