How to scan and fax a paper document

1

Open FaxSeal on your phone

Go to faxseal.com/send in a modern mobile browser — Safari on iOS, Chrome on Android or iOS, Firefox on Android. No app to install.

2

Tap "Scan paper document"

Below the file picker, tap the scan button. Grant camera permission when prompted — it is only used locally, nothing is uploaded until you confirm.

3

Photograph each page

Point your camera at the document and tap the shutter for each page. Up to 20 pages. The scan is converted to grayscale automatically for fax clarity.

4

Review and fax

Tap Done, enter the fax number, and send. From $0.60 with credits or $1.29 pay-as-you-go. Certified delivery receipt included.

Tips for a clean scan

💡

Flat surface, good light

Place the document on a flat surface in natural or overhead light. Avoid direct lamp glare on glossy paper.

📐

Fill the frame

The guide rectangle shows the ideal framing. Align all four corners of the page inside it for the cleanest result.

🔁

Retake any page

Tap the × on a thumbnail to remove a page and reshoot it before finishing. You can also reorder by removing and re-scanning in the right order.

Frequently asked questions

Do I need an app to scan and fax from my phone?

No. FaxSeal's built-in scanner uses your phone's browser camera. Go to faxseal.com/send, tap "Scan paper document", and your phone camera opens directly in the browser. No app download, no account required.

What browsers support the camera scanner?

Safari on iOS, Chrome on Android and iOS, and Firefox on Android. The scanner uses the standard browser camera API (MediaDevices.getUserMedia) which requires a secure context (HTTPS). You will be prompted to grant camera permission the first time.

Can I scan multi-page documents?

Yes. After each shot, tap the shutter again to capture the next page. You can capture up to 20 pages in a single scan session. All pages are combined into one PDF automatically before sending.

How does the scan quality compare to a fax machine?

Fax transmission resolution is 200 dpi regardless of source. A modern phone camera captures far more detail than that — the bottleneck is the fax network, not the scan. In practice, scanned faxes from FaxSeal arrive at the same quality as those sent from a dedicated fax machine.

Is my document uploaded to FaxSeal's servers when I scan?

The camera captures happen entirely on your device. Only when you tap Done does FaxSeal convert the photos into a PDF. That PDF is then uploaded to send — the same as uploading any other document.

Can I fax handwritten documents or forms?

Yes. Fax machines transmit images, not text — so handwritten forms, signed letters, and hand-filled applications all fax perfectly. The scan converts the page to grayscale, which matches the standard fax format.

What if my document is faded or crumpled?

Smooth the document as flat as possible and shoot in good light. The scanner applies automatic grayscale processing to improve contrast. For very faded documents, increase the ambient light or hold the phone steady for a sharper shot.

Can I fax a physical document without going to a copy shop?

Yes — that is exactly what this feature is for. Copy shops like UPS Store charge $1.50–$3 per page to fax. FaxSeal lets you scan on your phone and fax for a fraction of the cost with a certified delivery receipt.
